Issues

Democrat Jessica Reinmann was inspired to run for Congress to stand up to the dangerous attacks on our democracy, our rights, our neighbors, and our families — attacks that our current Member of Congress, Mike Lawler, is too weak to stand up against.

Jessica, an anti-poverty expert and advocate, will fight for common sense, mainstream Democratic values: defending a woman’s right to choose; advocating for sensible gun safety laws; and standing by our allies around the world: Israel to Ukraine to Taiwan.

As the CEO and co-founder of 914Cares, a nonprofit that provides basic essentials to families in need, Jessica has worked for over a decade to provide support to our most vulnerable neighbors.  She has worked to invest millions of dollars into community organizations that address clothing insecurity, diaper need, poverty, and more. With so many working families already struggling, Jessica knows we need systemic changes to address the challenges our families are facing.

But there is only so much we can do in response to these crises when our Congressmember won't tell the truth or stand up for our district. We need someone we can trust to fight for the change we need, and to tackle these issues head-on. That’s Jessica.

As our Congressmember, Jessica will stand up to extremism and put the families of Dutchess, Putnam, Rockland, and Westchester counties first. She will work to restore the integrity of our government and our standing overseas.

Most of all, Jessica will work to deliver real, common-sense results on the issues that matter most, and reject the divisiveness and extremism that has come to define Washington politics. She is driven, first, foremost, and always, by a desire to treat all Americans with dignity and respect.

  • As co-founder and CEO of 914Cares, Jessica  knows firsthand how the affordability crisis and government shortcomings are harming families. Jessica understands that raising a family during this time is incredibly difficult. From basic essentials to childcare, leaders must do more so our families can thrive. Her priorities include re-implementing the SALT (state and local tax) deduction, protecting Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid from cuts, working to decrease the cost of prescription drugs, and raising the federal poverty line.

Jessica will do everything she can to make sure that the Federal Government maintains Social Security Offices so that seniors and people with disabilities in our district don’t have to travel far at great expense to fight for their benefits.

  • Reproductive freedom is a top priority for Jessica. She is ensuring women and families have access to fertility care, which was critical for her own family. She will protect access to abortion and contraception, work to reduce maternal mortality, and invest in fertility and women’s health research.

  • Our right to vote is sacred, and extremists continue to attack it. Mike Lawler is currently a co-sponsor of the SAVE Act, which seeks to disenfranchise millions of Americans and will create a tremendous barrier to register or change your address. It will be especially harmful for women and young people – the two demographics that tend to lean Democratic. As our Congressmember, Jessica will fight to protect the right to vote and seek to increase voter turnout.

  • Our veterans have made tremendous sacrifices for our country, and our government must do more to support them. Jessica firmly opposes efforts to close VA sites, including the staff cuts and reduction of services at the Castle Point VA. It is unacceptable for the Administration to fire thousands of VA staff members and to cut VA funding.

  • Jessica has worked tirelessly in under-resourced school districts ensuring their students have the basic essentials they need to thrive.  She believes that strong public schools and access to equal educational opportunities are critical. She knows first hand that the efforts to attack the Department of Education will only harm our most vulnerable students and threaten the ability of schools to meet the needs of their students. She knows that our diversity is a strength and will oppose attacks on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion policies.

  • Jessica has made combating the rise of hate crimes and antisemitism a priority. While our nation has a proud history of encouraging free and open debate on critical issues, she knows that we can never allow that free speech to devolve into hate speech or  encourage violence. Jessica will advocate for all Universities to follow the Title VI prohibitions on all forms discrimination, including against Jewish Students, or risk losing their federal funding. Jessica knows that to stem the rising antisemitism and violence against the Jewish community, we must increase education. She is an advocate for increasing Holocaust education in all schools and has worked to increase this education in her home district of Chappaqua and at her children’s school in Tarrytown.

  • Reducing gun violence is a priority for Jessica. She knows that common-sense gun safety laws like Universal Background Checks and Red Flag laws are imperative to protect our community. Every member of our community deserves to feel safe. In her role at 914Cares, Jessica has seen the effects of domestic violence in the community,  partnering with organizations like My Sister’s Place, Hope’s Door, and First Steps to Heal and knows that Red Flag Laws will not only protect the survivors but also the law enforcement community.

From stopping the flow of illegal weapons, to cracking down on violent crime and abuse, to improving relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve, Jessica knows that Congress must focus on achievable goals to stem the rise of antisemitism and hate crimes, and to keep our families safe.

  • From cutting USAID support across the world, to parroting Russian propaganda, to threatening our largest trading partners with tariffs,to abandoning our allies when they are under attack, the current Administration has weakened our relationships with the world, encouraged violence and political instability, created opportunities for our adversaries and drastically damaged the perception of America globally.

Jessica is a steadfast ally of Israel, which is America's strongest ally and the strongest democracy in the Middle East. She believes the U.S. must prioritize maintaining a supportive relationship with Israel, ensure it can defend itself against the threat of terrorism, and work towards a permanent peace in the region.

Jessica fully supports Ukraine and its efforts to defend itself against an unjust invasion from Russia, and she opposes the Administration's efforts to stop aid to Ukraine. Jessica also stands with Taiwan, and she opposes the destabilizing proposals to invade our allies Canada, Greenland, and Panama.

  • The Hudson Valley is already feeling the effects of climate change and we need a Congress Member who will fight to protect the environment, improve our resiliency, and strengthen our infrastructure. Our families deserve access to clean air and water, and in Washington, Jessica will hold big polluters accountable. Our nation must invest in green technology and infrastructure, and begin to prepare our workforce.
